After dating for nearly three years (two of which were long distance between Seattle and Missoula), Tyler and I were headed to the British Virgin Islands for his family's annual trip with some close family and friends. With two long days of travel behind us, we finally arrived in paradise. On our second night there, everyone got together at his parent's villa after dinner. Around 10 o'clock that evening, Tyler asked if I wanted to go 'check out the stars' on a quick walk down the beach as it was a completely clear evening. We were nearing the point, where we had agreed to turn around, when I noticed a blanket and small table with an ice bucket and a bottle of champagne. I looked at it and told Tyler that someone must be having a romantic night out on the beach. With a mischievous look on his face he told me to go check it out. So I ran over to snoop on some unsuspecting couple's romantic setting, still thinking nothing about the irony that we had stumbled upon this scene. When I turned around Tyler was down on one knee with the ring box in his hand. I could hardly believe it as he is rarely such a romantic! He popped the question (and I said "Yes!") and then we popped the champagne and enjoyed the stars before walking back to celebrate with everyone. It was the most magical evening and an amazing start to an unforgettable trip.
I started planning the proposal back in January when I asked Clint’s permission while on a guy’s hunting trip. I knew it would be important to Britney and me to have friends and family present so I decided that my dad's annual summer trip would be the perfect time. After six months of nervous anticipation, we boarded our flight to Miami on our way to the BVI. After a rough red eye from Seattle to Miami, I anxiously handed off the ring to my dad. As soon as we arrived in Virgin Gorda, I met with the resort staff to get a game plan in place – we agreed that they would strategically place a blanket and a bottle of champagne on the beach between two lone palm trees. The night of, I had so many butterflies I could hardly eat my dinner. I knew that the staff was going to have everything ready to go at 9:30 and we were only a couple of hours away. After we ate, everyone came back to our villa for cocktails, music, and games. My sister, Taylor, executed the perfect hand-off of the ring and it was GO TIME! I asked Brit if she wanted to slip away and go for a walk to do some star gazing. Being we are both from "Big Sky Country" it's one of our favorite things to do when we are back in Montana. So we quietly snuck out the back door to walk down the beach, listen to some country music, and check out the beautiful, clear Caribbean night sky. The staff had informed me that everything would be set up right past the last two palm trees on our walk. As we approached the blanket and champagne I got a little anxious hoping everything was perfect. Britney noticed the cozy set up right away and wanted to know if I thought we were imposing on an unsuspecting couple. As she turned around to hear my answer, she found me down on one knee! After a few stammering sentences from me and lots of tears from her, she said YES! We took a few minutes to take in all in, kissed under the twinkling stars, and enjoyed some champagne before heading back to celebrate!
